Learn more about the independent viewpoint We are no longer comfortable communicating with people outside of our echo chamber and it sadly leaves very little to be desired surrounding the future of discourse in this country. However, the polarization of the last decade or so has forced everyone to pick political sides. As long as you were not encouraging actual violence, your thoughts and opinions were permitted. Originally, social media was designed to give the megaphone to everyday citizens and let everybody explore a great amalgamation of ideas. While Rumble’s motivations are clear, what is not entirely obvious is how social media reached this state of vitriol in the first place. Rumble’s angle on this situation seems pretty self-explanatory: it wants more explosive content for its base and it thinks Joe can provide it while at the same time exponentially growing its audience. The “n-word” is simply not permissible for a White person to use so casually in a discussion.

Spotify will make their decision on their own time, but certainly, the new revelations regarding Rogan’s comments on African Americans won’t help his cause. Most Americans are simply interested in completing everyday activities and do not have the appetite for all this bloodsport. All of the noise from the left and the right just continues to build and it has reached a deafening loudness. It should not be up to the mob or the “Twitterverse” to scare advertisers and executives and shut someone down. The situation is certainly complex, but private companies should have the right to decide what they intend to do with the content of those who use their services.

On the one hand, it is important to allow and promote the free expression of thoughts and ideas for all people however, with people dying from COVID-19 every day in this country, one can understand the impatience so many have with a brash voice like Joe Rogan. It is difficult to know what to make of the recent controversy between Joe Rogan and much of Hollywood. Learn more about the conservative viewpoint It is not necessary that Spotify should show support for Rogan, but it should show backing for the simple right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Sadly, rather than allowing freedom of speech, it removed numerous podcasts that Rogan posted without his consent. It is not a musician’s right to define what should be on the same platform as them that should have been the message that Spotify stood behind by confronting Young and other artists. Following Neil Young’s protests of having his music on a shared platform with Joe Rogan, Spotify should not have listened to him or other artists and their judgments on Rogan and his media. Spotify should not be listening to music and content creators’ opinions when it comes to what is on its platform. While I would advise Joe Rogan in political and moral senses to sign a deal with Rumble and remove all his content from Spotify, I understand that he would lose viewership and revenue from his podcast. While I do not believe that Rogan will sign this deal due to Rumble not truly being a well-known video platform for many age groups compared to Spotify, I believe this will spike interest in what Rumble is and bring it more viewership. It seems like they are one of the few social media platforms that truly are allowing freedom of speech and opinion on their platform.

Rumble has allowed other conservative creators and even Donald Trump to join its platform and allows these voices to be heard even after Twitter banned them. The multi-million dollar offer from Rumble to Joe Rogan is riveting news for people on the right.
